The car is a Golf V GTI and will be prepared for EMMA SQ competition. So far the list is as follows :
- HU : DRZ9255
- Speakers : Iridium 6.2
- Sub JL 12W7 sealed
- Dynamat, Optima and probably Audiocontrol DQS

I am going to use 3 Audison amps : 2 for the Iridiums ( 1 for highs and 1 for mid-bass ) and 1 for the sub. I'm pretty settled on LRX 2.500 for the JL but i don't know if i should go with LRX or VRX for the Iridiums. Do u think the difference in SQ ( or staging and imaging ) between the 2 of them is significant enough to deserve the double price of the VRX ?

VRX ampliers are really higher than LRX, to drive Iridium speakers, you should use amplifiers of same level (VRX) . Between LRX and VRX, there's a big difference in dynamic caracteristics.

That's good to know ! Thanks ! Any other opinion ? Also, do u think a VRX 4.300 is powerfull enough to drive the Iridiums at their full potential or should i go with one 2.150 for the tweeters and one 2.250 for the mid-bass ?

The VRX 4.300 could drive your mid-bass and your tweeters without any problem

Hi !

don't worry! The VRX 4.300 is enough to drive your speakers. you don't have to spend all that money in 2 VRX  this one is much sufficient

OK ! You convinced me. I am going to go with a VRX 4.300 for the tweete and mid-bass and a LRX 2.500 bridged for the JL. Although LRX 2.500 is rated only 4 ohms bridged, a friend of mine had no problems with it at 2.8 ohms !

I advise you not to take a LRX amp for driving your subwoofers. Take a real sub amp (or at least a VRX) because the LRX aren't so able to drive correctly subs.

LRX 2.500 is a good amplifier but with the rest of your equipment, you should take a better model which is made to drive subwoofers (mono channel). How many Watts do you need ? Under 4, 2 or 1 ohm ?

Somewhere around 700W at 3 ohms (JL is a little weird > nopt 2 or 4 but 3 ) ! LRX 2.500 does 1x660 at 4 ohms but it's not 2 ohm stable bridged. However i think it could handle 3 ohms with the fans kit installed ! I would take a VRX 1.500 but it gets a little too expensive !

I agree with him ! I owned 2 LRX few years ago ( a 1.500 and a 4.300 ) and finally they were too light to drive my focal 33V2... after changing for a soundtream VGA amp, my sub seemed to be be faster than drived by the LRX !

and now the soundstream sounds soft to me when compared with a VRX !

really avoid LRX for your subwoofer ! try something else, not even expensive than a VRX 1.500, but there's many good amp for subwoofers

Like a Hifonics Brutus 2005d. It's not as expensive as many other amp from the same category but it's really a good investment
